In this tutorial, Joe takes you through the process of modeling a Colt 1911. Using a map of the reference image, he created the low polygon slide, handle, trigger guard, trigger, barrel, hammer, and sights. It then creates the Sub-D and high-slip poly handle and barrel models. Joe shows how it optimizes the geometry to create normal maps and UVs sets out the blade, the handle and barrel. He discusses troubleshooting normal maps, common mistakes and things to look for and how to create a map in 2D grayscale normal, and composite map of normal poly. Joe finally complete the final model from Maya with textures applied.
